Biography
After completing her Bachelor's of Accountancy at New Mexico State University in 1999, Katy went to work for a local CPA firm in Albuquerque, NM. Pulakos and Alongi, Ltd. was a great environment to learn about different types of businesses in the Albuquerque area and meet many individuals and small business owners. Katy, as a Tax Senior, specialized in preparing business and individual tax returns, performing month-end close for many types of business clients (compilations, reviews and audits in compliance with GAAP along with non-audited business and individual financial statements) assisting clients with accounting software issues (Excel, Word and QuickBooks questions), internal control procedures and writing correspondence to taxing authorities in order to facilitate lower penalties and interest for business and individual clients.
Katy passed the 4th part of the Certified Public Accounting exam in May of 2004 and in June, went to work for William A. Harrison, MD, Barbara S. Van Eeckhout, MD and Nancy L. Kerr, MD as a Business Office Manager. Here, Katy found her niche in providing bookkeeping services and completing complex bookkeeping and payroll issues for separate companies that shared employees.
The company, Katy Estrada, CPA was formed in December of 2004 in order to provide small businesses and individuals with their tax needs. As the physicians slowed their practice, retired or relocated, Dr. Harrison could no longer justify a full time manager on staff and hence, Katy decided to expand her business.
Most recently, Katy moved her practice to Southern NM in order to support her husband in his new business venture. She was able to keep 95% of her clients and support them via internet/e-mail/fax and phone. See Moving Page for more details.
Recently, Katy obtained her coaching license and became the local high school assistant volleyball coach. She assists her Father and Uncle who are Varsity and JV coaches.
Katy is the oldest of five children and was raised in the same small town she just moved back to. For details of the area, visit Hidalgo County's official website. Her father teaches/coaches at the local school (Animas Public Schools). Her mother is a Technology Specialist with Lordsburg Public Schools. She is the proud mother of two children, Ryan (8) and Rachel (6). Her hobbies include Volleyball, Coaching, Geocaching, gardening, quilting, and New Mexico History.
